Being Found

5 Comments 23 June 2010

We all know that a very important business driver is lead generation. We go out find databases and cold call and direct mail drop to try and “find” new leads, but a very important lead generation tool that can often get over looked is the ability to be “found”.

Tips for being found

1. Have a web presence – pair with a reputable company (thanks Datum Connect) that knows about bringing your business to life online. Approximately 45% of New Zealanders over the age of 18 look online and search the internet before buying these days, so it is very important to have some sort of web presence. Not only that but your website needs to be engaging, informative and drive people to your product or services.

2. Search Engine Operation (SEO) – These days a website is not enough, you also need to be found!, Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is the science behind ensuring that your website is found when internet searchers are seeking organisations by using particular key words. There are fundamental online strategies that need to be implemented in the structure and content of your website to ensure your site appears to your target markets.

3. Social Networking – This is becoming increasingly popular for businesses as it is an inexpensive and effective option. Platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedn allow us to display the more human element of a business and interact with our clients and the community at large via the web.

4. PR - PR is also another reasonably inexpensive way to increase your chances of being found – the aim here is too position yourself as an expert in your field (to find out more read our story below 10 tips for PR).

5. Online Directory Listings – There are loads of free directory listings online that you can put a summary of your business on along with your contact details. Being listed on these increases your chances of coming up high on the search engine list.

These are just a handful of the ways that you can work on being ‘Found’ by your target audience for more specific advice for your business email Aimee at aimee@resgroup.co.nz.

There are plenty of lead generation scripts out there! Perhaps I should do an article on this, until then you may want to buy a book with some basic scripts:

  5. I agree Alexander it does take time to build up and you do have to be patient. However there are faster and smarter ways to do things and these will differ for every business, and I believe that all businesses should be using multiple lead generation strategies and be consistent in their lead generation. Never let your lead generation falter – continue even through the busy times, you never know when you will hit that next lull.
